Simon Bevin
Story
Hi, I am Simon Bevin. I live in beautiful Mount Maunganui with my wife, Renay, and our two children, Ryan (10) and Fynn (8).
I work as an Air Traffic Controller at Tauranga Airport. I have also previously worked in the Royal New Zealand Navy and as a Police Constable.
The Mount Maunganui climate provides an opportunity for a great outdoor lifestyle, with arguably the best beach in New Zealand, which motivates people to keep fit and healthy. In the past few years, as part of my "mid-life crisis", I started participating in triathlons and have now completed three Port of Tauranga Half Ironman's and numerous shorter distance events. Ocean swimming is also an interest of mine and I am a regular starter in the "Around Mount Swim" and the Ocean Swim series.
I am attracted to any event that will provide personal challenge, and this is part of my motivation to run the New York Marathon with CatWalk. Additionally, I have a collapsed disc in my lower back with effects my nervous system into my lower body which needs to be managed on a daily basis. While my injury is at the very lower end of the scale, I do have a interest and understanding of the CatWalk mission.
See you in New York!!
The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust
CatWalk is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of spinal cord injuries. CatWalk funds comprehensive research to address the complex challenges of spinal cord injury. We support a wide variety of initiatives – from education to research, and therapeutic development to patient care. We are paving the way to more effective treatment and, ultimately, a cure. Each of CatWalk’s initiatives plays a vital role in achieving this goal.
