Story
As a 52-year-old Southland dairy farmer, I confronted my mid-life crisis by starting to participate in multi sport events. I was first introduced to the idea of the New York Marathon in the 80’s after Alison Roe and Rod Dixon won is what still remain as very fast times. I still feel the pride remembering the achievements of those New Zealanders.
I was introduced to CatWalk by one of its ambassadors, Anna Hiatt, whom I sometimes train with here in Wanaka, so I am familiar with the origins of the Trust.
My wife Jenny is my trusty support crew, and enjoys the atmosphere and excitement of race day. She finds watching all the other athletes come through the finish line before me a real treat! When she’s not saving me, she works as a real estate agent for Bayleys Wanaka.
Jen has a great interest in all things equestrian, and has always trained and ridden horses in dressage, hunting and showing events. She became familiar with CatWalk through this.
Together we are embarking on this adventure to New York as part of the CatWalk Team, and with your support, we look forward to helping the CatWalk cause as part of our undertaking.
The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Research Trust
CatWalk is dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of spinal cord injuries. CatWalk funds comprehensive research to address the complex challenges of spinal cord injury. We support a wide variety of initiatives – from education to research, and therapeutic development to patient care. We are paving the way to more effective treatment and, ultimately, a cure. Each of CatWalk’s initiatives plays a vital role in achieving this goal.
